Collard used a kimura and some punches to create space but Martinez ducked under and got a sloppy takedown. He desperately shot for takedowns, and nearly got one. Collard returned to the body shot and hurt Martinez again. When Martinez pulled a guillotine choke, Collard broke out and stood up. Potentially anyone’s fight going into the final round, wall-and-stall occurred for the first time in the bout, even for if just a moment. Somehow a straining Collard survived – and even stuck his tongue out in celebration. Martinez snatched Collard’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke – or not. Martinez escaped and denied multiple rolling switch attempts by Collard.
